Salesmanship in a Tough Economy

You don't need me to tell you that the economy has put a strain on sales across most industries. Everyday, we read about companies filing for Bankruptcy, downsizing or just closing their doors. It is a very challenging time we are going through. Despite the challenges, we still have choices to make and the choices we make right now can make the difference between success and failure.
As a salesperson or sales manager, you have a choice as to your mindset regarding these challenges.
A. Will you let the challenges overwhelm you, generating negative energy that impacts your attitude and shows through your sales calls and/or management responsibilities?
OR
B. Will you look at these challenges as obstacles that you can surmount and show your professionalism when others around you are in a negative state of mind?

There are many of your colleagues who have chosen "A" and their negative attitude shines through in every aspect of their day. Their voices are monotone, their body language speaks of defeatism and their lack of passion comes through in their sales calls and exchanges with customers. Why would a customer buy from you if all you have to sell is "whoa is me" ?

If you chose "B" you can use your upbeat approach and passion to make the customer feel better about what you are selling. You can bring a "spark" into a dreary day and when you leave that customer, he will feel better about you, your product and himself. As other "A" sales people contact him, he will start comparing their "Doom and Gloom" to your "Sunny" personality. It just may bring you more business that may have gone elsewhere.

Remember: "Passion is contagious"

There is Positive Passion and Negative Passion. Be the one who brings the Positive Passion and it will make you more successful during these trying times.

Have a great day!
